Anglers are well catered for, in and around Horsham, with a large variety of fishing opportunities all year round. Species such as Brown and Rainbow Trout, Redfin, Murray Cod, Golden Perch, Catfish, Silver Perch and Yabbies are all abundant in the Wimmera's many beautiful waterways.

Taylors Lake

18 kilometres from Horsham,Taylors Lake is very popular water for Golden Perch, Murray Cod, Redfin and Yabbies. Some very large Murray Cod and many trophy specimens are landed here by lucky anglers every year. Boat anglers are well catered for with a very good boat ramp.

The Wimmera River

The Wimmera River, which runs right through Horsham, is a top water for Golden Perch, Silver Perch, Catfish and Redfin. It has the most abundant population of Catfish in Victoria, which makes for some great angling. Other popular areas of the Wimmera River are at Dimboola, Antwerp and Jeparit.There are many boat ramps and picnic areas along the rivers length.

Lake Wartook

Situated in the beautiful Grampians National Park, Lake Wartook is a scenic drive from Horsham.

Very popular for Brown Trout and Redfin. There is an excellent boat ramp and picnic area, and the lake is close to other tourist attractions such as MacKenzie Falls and Boroka Lookout.

Toolondo Reservoir

A short half hour drive from Horsham, Toolondo Reservoir (currently very low) covers 1,444 hectares and has a reputation for being one of Australia's best Brown Trout fishing areas. It is also known for its population of Redfin and Rainbow Trout.

Rocklands Reservoir

Rocklands Reservoir is set at the foot of the Black Ranges. It provides excellent fishing opportunities with catches of Redfin, Rainbow and Brown Trout.

 

Getting To Horsham

Horsham lies 300 kilometres north-west of Melbourne and 450 kilometres south east of Adelaide, on the main rail and road routes linking Victoria with Adelaide.

The Western Highway is the main artery through Horsham connecting Melbourne and Ballarat in the south-east and Adelaide in the north-west. There is also the Wimmera Highway which connects St Arnaud to the east, Naracoorte in the west and the Henty Highway connecting the south-western areas of Victoria such as Hamilton, Warrnambool and Portland, along with Warracknabeal and Mildura in the north.
